Morning on Brooktrout Lake, West Canada Lake Wilderness, Adirondacks

In The Perfect Hiking Boot – Part 1, I mentioned walking through Otter Brook in the Adirondacks with my boots on. It happened in the West Canada Lake Wilderness when my youngest and I were lost and bushwhacking (story here). Our 3-day backpack started and finished at the end of Otter Brook Road. Our loop followed Indian River Road; West Canada Lakes Trail; the Northville-Placid Trail (northward); and the Cedar Lakes Trail (westward). I used the Adirondack Trails West-Central Region and Trails Illustrated Adirondack Park Northville, Raquette Lake maps to plan and navigate (perhaps no great recommendation given that we lost our bearings). Highlights: (1) morning on Brooktrout Lake (pictured); (2) meeting a pine marten; and (3) finding the trail again after hours of bushwhacking back and forth.
